Mithun | Solomon

Daniel Solomon Design Partners has joined Seattle- and San Francisco-based Mithun to create an integrated team of architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners and interior designers. The Mithun San Francisco office now operates as Mithun | Solomon.

Daniel Solomon Design Partners' three principals, Daniel Solomon FAIA, Anne Torney AIA, LEED AP, and John Ellis AIA, RIBA, are now partners at Mithun. Solomon, Torney, Ellis and their staff join Mithun principals Sandy Mendler, AIA, LEED AP, Antonio Pares, AIA, LEED AP, and Roger Gula, AIA, LEED AP and staff in Mithun's San Francisco office at 660 Market Street. The former Associates and Staff of Daniel Solomon Design Partners assume continuing roles within the combined firm, also at 660 Market.

Daniel Solomon Design Partners brings to Mithun the four-decade heritage of a distinguished practice, a distinctive focus on the relationship between housing and urbanism, and over 100 design awards for projects ranging from small urban infill to large scale master plans for neighborhoods and districts.

Daniel Solomon, FAIA, joins Mithun as a partner in the Mithun | Solomon San Francisco office. His long list of awards and personal recognition includes the Maybeck Award for lifetime design achievement from the California Council, AIA, and the Seaside Prize for contributions to American Urbanism. He is Professor Emeritus at UC Berkeley and Kea Distinguished Professor at the University of Maryland. He serves as lead designer on many projects and as design advisor and critic on others, in both the San Francisco and Seattle offices. Anne Torney, AIA, LEED AP assumes a leadership position within Mithun, expanding on her role of the past 18 years working with Daniel Solomon and John Ellis. Her deep commitment remains to the design and execution of mixed-income and affordable housing, most often in complex urban settings. Design, client relations, public process, project management and overall office organization are among her many skills and responsibilities. She will be based in the Mithun | Solomon office in San Francisco and serve clients throughout the country and internationally.

John Ellis, AIA, RIBA directs large scale urban design and master planning projects within the combined firm, as he has for over 20 years as long-time collaborator with Daniel Solomon and Anne Torney. John brings architectural knowledge and sensibility to large scale planning, grounding urban form in the realities of building. His broad experience with master planning, campus planning, transit villages and urban neighborhoods complements Mithun’s environmentally focused and award winning urban design, planning, and landscape architectural projects. John will also be based in the Mithun | Solomon office in San Francisco and as a partner will serve clients throughout the country and internationally.
